Brandon Bell - Bell Steel, Inc.
 
 
Brandon Bell is an individual with a rare combination of skills and traits that make him a successful leader in whatever endeavor he becomes involved with.  He believes that opportunities abound for those willing to look for and work at achieving those opportunities, and he possesses a great level of humility - motivated not be personal gain or ego, but by bringing the best out in others. 
 
Brandon grew up in Yuma, and moved to Phoenix in 1999 after high school to work at his father's company, United Ornamental Iron.  Brandon learned the business from the ground up, and recognized that in order to grow, the company would need to expand its operations from ornamental iron to structural steel.  As the Company's Estimator and Chief Project Manager, he began taking classes in engineering and construction management at night, and educated himself on the structural steel business, slowly integrating structural projects. 
 
By 2007, Brandon was the General Manager, in charge of day to day operations and continuing to grow the structural steel business.  In 2009 the company changed it's name to Bell Steel, Inc and in 2013, Brandon was named CEO of Bell Steel.  Under Brandon's leadership, the company's revenue tripled by 2015. 
 
Brandon is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, was named to the Top 40 Under 40 list in 2015 and has been selected to serve as a Thunderbird.  He is active in the community, including hosting a charity golf tournament raising $22,000 for ICAN in 2016, and also works with his certified dog in senior living facilities.  He is a proud husband and father of two young boys.

The VA’s billion dollar boondoggle

A long-planned Veterans Affairs hospital being built in Denver, already hundreds of millions of dollars over its $604 million budget, has turned into a billion-dollar boondoggle for the agency. The contractor, Kiewit-Turner, blames the VA for ignoring agreements to submit plans that can be built within budget and has asked a federal board overseeing civilian contract disputes to let the company walk away from the job. Problems with the building emerged in January, when letters between the builder and the VA revealed the project to be running some $200 million over budget, with Kiewit-Turner blaming a pricey design that was only partially completed by the time it entered into the contract. The two sides subsequently agreed — via a handwritten agreement — to build the hospital within the original budget, with the VA in charge of submitting a new, pared-down design reflecting a number of cost-saving measures.                  HAPPY EIGHT TRACK TAPE DAY!!   When : Always April 11th   Eight Track Tape Day brings back fond memories of the sixties and seventies. During this era, eight track tapes ruled the music world. America's love of the automobile, was a driving force in creating the demand for musical cassette formats. For those who grew up in this era, an eight track tape player in your home and your car was an essential. It was eventually replaced by cassette and other formats for storing music. Eight Track Tape Day is a day to bring back fond memories of the sixties and seventies. If you still have tapes and a player, by all means enjoy the day listening to some great music. If not, just spend a few minutes looking back in time to when you loved your eight track tapes!   Did you know? Eight track tapes were created by the jet maker William Lear. Anybody have a matchbook?
