Half of metros gain construction jobs in past year; Reed says starts sag from a year ago   Click here to view April metro employment tables.   An AGC analysis showed that of the 339 metro area s (including divisions of larger metros) for which BLS reports construction employment , 170 had increases, 123 had decreases and 46 were stagnant. (BLS combines mining and logging with construction in most metros to avoid disclosing data about industries with few employees. Metro data is not seasonally adjusted.) Pascagoula, Miss. again added the highest percentage of new construction jobs (45%, 1,700 combined jobs), followed by Napa, Calif. (36%, 800 combined jobs) and Merced, Calif. Oldest Vet at 107, Richard Overton Celebrates Memorial Day at Texas Home By: Michael Mullins Richard Arvine Overton, believed to be America's oldest veteran, spent Memorial Day quietly reflecting in his home in East Austin, Texas, remembering his former comrades while enjoying some whiskey-stiffened coffee and cigars. The 107-year-old World War II veteran, who served in the South Pacific from 1942 through 1945, told Fox News that he didn’t have any specific plans for Memorial Day except to take it easy. "I don’t know, some people might do something for me, but I’ll be glad just to sit down and rest," the Army veteran said during a phone interview. "I’m no young man no more." Overton's rest and relaxation over the Memorial Day holiday comes after a particularly busy month for the centenarian. After being officially honored for his military service two days before celebrating his birthday 107th birthday on May 11, Overton was flown to Washing

Congratulations!   Our very own 2013 General Member of the Year, Ryan Evans, has a wide range of hobbies and activities, not the least of which is acting as the Assistant Coach for his daughters Volleyball Team.  Recently, at the Southern California Junior National Qualifier , the team competed and did exceedingly well. They finished in 3rd place out of about 80 teams and missed a bid to the Junior Nationals by one match! Congratulations team and coaches! Awesome job! 3rd place! Looks like the future Misty or Kerri to me!

HAPPY NATIONAL TRAIN DAY!! The year 1869 was a really exciting time in America. The Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads were speeding across the wild, American frontier, laying tracks for what would soon become the first Transcontinental rail line. Construction was often done at great peril, as vast areas of the west were truely wild and unsettled. Once completed, train service would be connected from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, making the world a whole lot smaller. It would also change the face of America.  On May 9, 1869 the tracks of the two railroad companies met up at Promontory Summit, Utah. A golden spike was driven into the final connection of the two tracks. The first Continental rail line was 1,776 miles long. Towns, big and small, would soon sprout up along the route. Here are just some of the ways you can celebrate this special day: Take a train ride Go to a train museum Explore train and railroad history. Join a train club - there are
