The Bureau of Labor Statistics cites that volunteers spent a median of 52 hours on volunteer activities during the period from September 2014 to September 2015. Among those who volunteered, median annual hours spent on volunteer activities ranged from a low of 36 hours for those under 35 years old to a high of 94 hours for those aged 65 and over. According to The Corporation for National and Community Service, in 2015, 1 in 4 Americans volunteered 7.9 billion hours, which equated to an estimated value of $184 billion! In fact, volunteering has increased by 60% since 1974, when President Nixon created the first National Volunteer Week!
